Emergency Planning: Best Practices for Safety and Community Engagement

Tues, July 30, 2019 at 11:00 - 12:00 pm (ET)

Recent natural disasters have brought the risk of catastrophic events to the forefront, and reminded us of the importance of emergency planning and preparedness. Emergency planning is not just about maintaining compliance, or preventing loss of life and property. It’s about strengthening communications with the larger community, for the mutual benefit of employees and the general public. Sound planning is a form of leadership that can benefit an organization by making it a more transparent and well-respected member of the community.

This webinar will discuss regulatory requirements for emergency planning, and best practices for proactively developing emergency procedures before an incident occurs, communicating with stakeholders, and building goodwill with the community. We'll also look at the role of emergency planning within a safety management system, as recognized by international standards such as ISO 45001. Finally, we'll explore ways that modern technology can streamline all aspects of emergency planning.

  • Background and regulatory framework
  • Key components of emergency planning
  • Importance of leadership and communication
  • Best practices for sharing information
  • How to leverage technology to improve emergency planning
